On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 Haiti was struck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, the worst quake in over 200 years, leaving thousands dead and many more wounded and homeless.
There are many great organizations on the ground already bringing relief to the hardest-hit areas. Please prayerfully consider supporting any of these organizations:
- “Love Haiti” Matching Grants via World Vision: “In collaboration with New Hope, NewSong, JustOne, ICC, and Sakura, we are launching a “Love Haiti” Donations Matching Challenge to raise funds for Haiti. The first $10,000 in donations will be matched by ICC and Sakura. Our hope is to raise more than $20,000 total for World Vision’s relief efforts currently in Haiti.”
- Matching Gifts: DJ Chuang has posted a great list of other ways to give donations that will be matched for Haiti relief.
- One Day’s Wages Haiti Relief Fund: ODW is seeking to raise $100,000 to support the work of World Concern and Partners in Health in Haiti.
- Living Water International: Razoo is matching funds for donations to Living Water International’s work to bring desperately needed clean water to those in need right now in Haiti. “In Haiti, clean water is a terrible problem even at the best of times,” said LWI Executive Director Gary Evans. “After a quake like this, it’s a crisis of epic proportions.” [UPDATE: The initial matching grant has already been filled, but there's a possibility of a new matching grant. In any case, LWI is organizing a coalition of water organizations to bring relief to Haiti]
- Hope For Haiti Shirts: Help End Local Poverty is donating 100% of proceeds from these shirts to support the work of the organization, Real Hope For Haiti.
- NPR has compiled a “How To Help” list of organizations responding to the disaster as well
